The GAP waveguide technology patented by Swedish Gapwaves AB is based on the invention by Dr. Per-Simon Kildal of Chalmath Institude Univ. (Gothenburg, Sweden). Waveguide of GAP has a specific advantage comparing to the existing microwave, mmWave transmission line and waveguide technologies. By being manufactured using electric discharge machining technology for the systems that normally operates at 30GHz to THz, construction of high cost-effective RF component is allowed for the first time.

Features

GAP waveguide line technology is a new and useful microwave technology mainly for the use on the frequency between 30GHz and THz. GAP waveguide line have a less loss than common solutions such as a Micro Strip line or Coplana waveguide line of the metal strip on dielectric PCB, and also less loss than SIW (Substrate Integrated Waveguide).
It has as much loss as commonly-used all-metal rectangular waveguide, but no JOINT is required between metal parts so it can be manufactured with high cost performacne. Also, GAP waveguide line can solve the resonance issue when to pack the active/passive circuits using Micro strip and Coplana waveguide line.
